Privacy policy

Scout Water (“Scout Water,” “I,” “me”) is a water testing and treatment business serving St. Catharines and the Niagara Region of Ontario. This page explains, in plain English, what information I collect through scoutwater.ca, why, and what you can ask me to do with it. I follow Canada's federal privacy law, PIPEDA.
What I collect
When you book a free water test, the form asks for:
- your name
- your phone number
- your email address (optional)
- your address, so I can come to your home
- your main water concern, and your answers to the water check-up if you used it
The form also records how you found the site (for example a Google search, a Facebook ad or a flyer), so I know which of my advertising works.
How I use it
I only use your information to contact you about your water test and anything you ask me about afterwards: booking a time, sharing your results, and following up on a quote. I don't add you to a mailing list without asking, and I never sell, rent or trade your information.
Who else sees it
A few trusted services help me run the website and receive your booking:
- Netlify hosts this website and stores a copy of form submissions.
- FormSubmit delivers your booking to my email inbox.
- Google (Gmail and Google Analytics).
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram), if you arrived from one of my ads.
Some of these companies may store data outside Canada, including in the United States. I don't share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. They use cookies and similar technology to count visits, see which pages and buttons people use, and tell me whether my ads lead to bookings. This information is about how the site is used; it doesn't include the details you type into the booking form.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work. You can also:
- opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
- change your ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings
How long I keep it
I keep booking details for as long as I need them to serve you, for example to look up your past water results or a warranty question, and as required for business and tax records. If you never become a customer, I delete your details on request, or after about two years.
Your choices: see, correct or delete your information
You can ask me at any time to:
- show you what information I have about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your information, or stop contacting you
Just call or text (647) 688-0102 and I'll take care of it within 30 days. If you're not happy with how I handled your request, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
Keeping it safe
The site uses a secure (https) connection, and access to booking information is limited to me. No method is 100% secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes
If I change this policy, I'll update it on this page and change the date at the top.
